Hijack Sandals at JFW Fashion Force Awards 2022

Last month, we got the opportunity to do a runway at JFW Fashion Force Awards 2022. It’s our first time coming up with a runway collection and we had tons of fun doing it. Take a look at the glow-ful event!

On the MYSTIC Collection
Inspired by the wondrous world of the deep sea, Hijack Sandals present the MYSTIC Collection. The collection comprises a total of six sandal looks featuring MYSTIC—a new sole design inspired by the skin folds of baleen whales. The sole’s striking contour lines sit below three pairs of the newly-launched Sonar sandals, along with three brand-new silhouettes exclusively designed for the runway.
To create the new sandal silhouettes, our designers at the Ā Lab (Hijack Sandals’ R&D) looked to a wide range of sources to come up with a set of eclectic and experimental yet highly-wearable designs.
Take the lush green ‘Silas’ by Deden Oki Pratama, for example, which took its design cues from Peshawari Chappal, a type of footwear originating in Pakistan’s Peshawar region. The traditional shoes’ charming little opening at the toe inspired its designer to adapt the look and give it a sleek contemporary treatment—retaining its original elegant look while giving it an urban edge.
Then there is ‘Tycho’ by Irvando Dityawan, a pair of mules that feature a hole on the top inspired by architect Ryue Nishizawa’s minimalist designs. The hole can be hidden with a round cover attached to elastic cords, which also function as the backstrap. Velvet fabric is also used for the first time to line the sandal, reflecting the designer’s desire to step outside the box.
Finally, there is the sky-blue ‘Naia’ by Budi Mochammad, which took the form of a more feminine sandal silhouette inspired by footwear worn in Ancient Greece. The sandals feature cords that delicately wrap around the wearer’s ankle, creating a flattering look that draws the eye. A magnetic slider at the top also adds a modern twist to the classic silhouette.
The MYSTIC Collection showcases Hijack Sandals’ continuous desire to explore sandals’ endless potential and possibilities.
