We are always passionate about collaboration, especially with someone who shares the same perspective, mindset, and attitude. When two heads combine, infinite ideas will flood the downstream of our creative cortex. Mycotech has its own value in producing an alternative material made from mycelium and is always constantly innovating. This somehow connects with Hi Jack Sandals’ mission to continue making innovations and responsibilities, making this collaboration bond much more robust.

A healthier alternative to leather is a material made from mycelium. Mylea stands for mycelium leather. It proliferates (60 days to develop a mushroom rather than a cow) and uses a friendlier finishing process. Mylea’s high technology readiness and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes make it an excellent choice for everyday wear towards a more sustainable future. This new silhouette from Hi Jack Sandals featured enhanced slipper sandals. With materials from Mylea and taking the backstrap to an upper strap.

Homo Sapiens are the most abundant and widespread species of primates, with large and complex brains enabling the development of advanced tools, culture, and language. When technology tools have become ubiquitous and more advanced comes more enormous responsibilities for us toward our surroundings. More specifically, our nature and environment for the next generations. We believe that to work toward the future, we need to believe that the future is possible. And how we can believe is by creating the future itself.

Walk The Future Exhibition

We created a special exhibition in Tokyo and Jakarta showcasing the Mimic Mylea collection. Located in Kanda, Tokyo, and at the Brightspot Market event in Jakarta. We would like to raise awareness on the issue of responsibility in using materials for our sandals together with the MYCL team.

Exhibition in Tokyo

Our partner in Tokyo held the Walk The Future exhibition on 26th January 2022 at Kanda. The exhibition went well with strict health protocols, and friends came to see the new Mimic Mylea Blach and Mimic Mylea.

Exhibition at Brightspot Market

The Walk The Future exhibition was presented at Jakarta’s annual Brightspot Market event. Located at Senayan Park, the event was held from 26th – 30th January 2022. A unique installation set made from mushrooms was presented at the booth.

Designed in collaboration with Mycotech Lab, they epitomize producing an alternative material made from Mycelium

that inspired the collection. Available in Mylea and Blach colorways with environmentally friendly upper material.

  • Hi-Flex insole for comfort and long-lasting cushioning with arch support
  • MYLEA upper for durability and environmentally friendly
  • VIBRAM Ripple & Hi-Tact outsole for extra grip and comfort

How Do We Make Materials Better?

Together with Mycelium! It’s the vegetative part of a fungus or fungus-like bacterial colony, consisting of a mass of branching, threadlike hyphae. It acts as natural adhesive which binds agricultural waste that we used as a substrate creating a composite material which is fully biodegradable. During the growing process the characteristic can be customized to be as durable as concrete, as light as foam, or mimicking leather look material.

Comparison to grow cow leather and mycelium leather

1. Total Consumption (source : Mekonnen and Hoekstra (2010) total meat per sqft : 5.03)

2. Post Treatment (Tanning) water consumption.

3. UNIDO Cow Leather Carbon Footprint 29.7 kg CO2 (2017)

4. Mycotech GHG report Average carbon footprint March 2019 – February 2020, Scope 1&2 (R&D stage).

5. Premium leather segment average production cost.
